Thanks for sitting down for this interview. Please tell our readers who you are, and
where you are from.
Well, I’m here representing Dead Leg. We are a group of musicians and creatives brought together
to create music and experiences around ideas and themes that inspire us. Masterminded by Alex
Whitcher, our approach to creating is very dynamic in terms of who is involved, the resulting
sounds and the genres we speak to.
We’re shifting the traditional notion of the musician, artist or band toward a more collective
approach which means we start with the idea we want to create and we then connect with our
network, the internet, our friends to find the right people to deliver on that… and then we get
going working together.
While we are only on our first release, the variety of sounds coming through the pipeline already
vary widely.
You say you are a ‘Collective of Artists’. How did this project come together, and where is
everybody based? Who are the members?
The consistent and driving force for Dead Leg is Whitcher who is based in Melbourne, Australia.
As I was saying before, those collaborating on any given project varies widely depending on what
the project calls for.
We can’t say too much about future releases but for “Twisted Dreaming,” the music was written by
Whitcher who collaborated with creative director Zoë Hawkins. Whitcher recorded most of the
instruments while vocals were delivered impeccably by Austrian-based artist Madishu, the track
was mixed and co-produced by Dan Kjellberg with mastering done locally in Melbourne by
Panorama.
Tell us about your first single release, out on May 5th.
“Twisted Dreaming” is Dead Leg’s first project and first release. This track is kind of serious… its all
about the ‘hopeful but hopeless’.
It channels that feeling that many of us are familiar with where you have this constant sense of
being close to something – greatness, enlightenment, fulfilment whatever it might be – but you
never quite get there. How this can keep you up at night, mess with your dreams, have you
turning over like a roast chicken with anxiety throughout the night.
Ultimately the song culminates and closes with the line ‘just let me sleep’… conveying just how
fucking tiring this can all feel.
The songwriting is typical of Whitcher’s style in that it comes predominantly from a place of pain
or despair. Having lost his brother to suicide in 2012, and later his mother (in the same week his
daughter was born), this track definitely has a harrowing edge if you listen closely.

Will you be recording more material, perhaps releasing an album project at some point?
We have a few projects in the works… some of these releases will fit with the vibe of our first
release and some of them will feel completely and utterly different! Stay tuned by following us on
Spotify and Instagram @dead__leg
Are there any plans for a music video?
All of our releases will come with unique artwork that will take different forms whether that be
static art, moving image, merchandise etc. For Twisted Dreaming we worked with azaazelus for all
the visuals. We love the other-worldly feel of this creative and azaazelus’ interpretation of the
lyrics.
Thanks so much for your time and good luck with the song!
