THEY SAY TO BE FULLY IMMERSED IN CREATIVITY YOU HAVE TO CONSTRUCT AN ENVIRONMENT OF INSPIRATION TO REALLY GET THE JUICES FLOWING, BUT FOR 24-YEAR-OLD ALTERNATIVE POP ARTIST VISHAAL GANESH, HIS CREATIVITY SHINES BRIGHTEST WHEN HE’S WORKING AT HIS DESK IN THE OFFICE. PERHAPS THE TRAITS OF A TRUE ARTIST, DAYDREAMING DURING THE MUNDANE AND MONOTONOUS MOMENTS OF LIFE CAN SPARK INSPIRATION, AND VISHAAL GANESH’S UPCOMING SINGLE ‘VOYAGER 1’ IS NO STRANGER TO THAT.
Influenced by the world around him and the unanswered questions of life, the phrase ‘what goes up, must come down’ inspired Vishaal Ganesh. “I started thinking about what the exceptions are to that rule in a more literal sense and I really liked the example of Voyager 1.” explains Ganesh, “The lyrics go back and forth with references to satellites and a relationship with the chorus being the glue that holds the narrative together.” The single will be accompanied by a pre-lude, ‘Lift Off’ and an epilogue, ‘A Song of Push And Pull,’ both of which set the scene for the full story.
An ominous piano shifts between bass and treble notes in the opening of ‘Lift Off’ as a violin fades softly in and out. Electronic elements are blended with organic orchestration before a slick transition into ‘Voyager 1,’ Vishaal Ganesh’s voice sitting over deep bass and light percussion. The piano is still threaded throughout, and the overall soundscape is explorative, a reflection of the song’s concept.
In verse two, harmonies are introduced, elevating the vocals, while the dynamic effects of a playful vocoder add an almost sinister touch to the track. Synthesizers are sprinkled here and there, alongside an emotive string section which really comes to life in an epic finale, thanks to a timpani crescendo and cinematic string arrangement, bringing moments of dissonance. Eventually, ‘Voyager 1’ fades into ‘A Song of Push and Pull’, which follows a similar piano refrain and is overlaid with woodwind and synthezisers. There’s a lighthearted and hopeful sweetness as it brings the story to an end.
Vishaal Ganesh has been infatuated with music all his life. He currently makes music in multiple languages, and some of his Tamil tracks have received over 100k views on YouTube across two different labels. In 2020, he left university and found himself caught in the mundane intricacies of post-grad work-life. In search of something more, Vishaal Ganesh enrolled in Berklee College of Music Online, where he is now studying to achieve a Bachelor’s in Songwriting and Music Production, while continuing to question the world around him and feed his curiosity through music and self-expression.
