“Show Up” releases on July 16th, 2021.
These days, one of the most pressing issues with music production is that there is just so much homologation in terms of creativity. Many aspiring artists try to emulate the bigger acts in a given genre, and as a result, things tend to be a little flat and uninspiring. We definitely need a bit of hot sauce, and this is exactly what Kristina Goulet delivers on her most recent studio project, “Show Up.”
The song kicks off with a beautiful piano part and a soothing, melodic vocal part, which actually makes me think of indie artists such as Daughter, or Dead Rituals, among others. However, “Show Up” definitely brings more of a melodic and pop-inspired sheen to the sound, especially in the way the melody keeps growing in size and intensity, going for a big, melodic sound that is so catchy and dynamic. When the drum parts finally hit, the scope of the song grows to an even higher and more expansive level, tipping the hat off to artists such as Coldplay, as well as The 1975, only to mention a few. Kristina’s vocals are absolutely astonishing, and she is great at layering harmony parts, especially in the chorus, where the song has a really romantic and mesmerizing melodic feel to it. What’s special about this song is the fact that it is really soothing and atmospheric, yet also very catchy. The song lyrics are also incredibly thought-provoking, especially towards the end, where Kristina repeats a beautiful final line, almost like a powerful mantra, which really matches the big scale of what she is saying, giving the song a cosmic, universal depth that culminates in an amazing outro, with a killer guitar solo and a lush, dreamy soundscape that feels so liberating and intensely emotional.
Ultimately, Kristina managed to source the best ingredients and craft a phenomenal sonic recipe that’s got some extra bite. As a result, “Show Up” feels like a breath of fresh air, and it is definitely going to leave its mark on the music scene. I would definitely recommend “Show Up” if you are a fan of indie-pop with a more melodic and understated feel.
