Canadian singer/songwriter and award-winning multi-instrumentalist, Ed Roman has entered the studios at Area 51 in Melancthon, Ontario, to begin recording his new album, titled Red Omen. The album is being recorded and produced by Michael Jack (Rush, Bono, Hillary Duff), who also produced Roman’s critically acclaimed 2014 release, Letters From High Latitudes. Joining him in the studio are members of his live band, Chris Tagart (electric guitars) and Antony Cook (drums and percussion), as well as Roman’s longtime friend, Tobias Tinker. Red Omen is due for release in Spring 2016.
“Apples, firetrucks, blood, rouge, stop signs, berries, tomatoes and my soul. These are the things that are red. Hidden in the grander scheme of the massive placation there is a hidden under current and message. Fraught with treachery and on a coin flip, an abundance of hope and sustenance. This is the omen inside the enigma,” writes Ed Roman.
“September 5th 2015. Early last week I embarked on the new recording projected entitled RED OMEN, set to be released in the spring of 2016. An anagram of Roman’s name, this album will be filled with an incredible grouping of songs and sounds to stir your human spirit and mortal coil. Some of the tracks like “Red Omen” and “Lay One Down” are just a few of the numbers the talk about the connection to each other from friend to foe. To bring your enemies closer and to learn to love them. Even in the face of catastrophe the human spirit can rise above this. “Tough Cookie” is a Billy Joel-esque style number that plays on the human condition and makes you want to boogie.’
“Chris (Tagart) is one of Canada’s finest guitar players, and it’s a pleasure to have him aboard. Antony (Cook) and I go way back to high school days, and it’s great to be playing with him again. The album will also feature songs that are entirely me from guitar, bass, drums, keyboards and God knows what else. I also hope to have my longtime friend and musical comrade, Tobias Tinker somewhere flowing through the album.’
“It’s been an incredible year and so many amazing things have happened. I’ve traveled all over the United States from Austin to New York City and I’ve been very inspired by many of the people that I’ve met any experiences that I’ve had. You never know if you might end up in a song. Ladies and gentlemen the omen is RED. It is a positive OMEN, yet it brings a warning that love must be cherished and nurtured in all aspects of your life otherwise it fails us and we have failed it.”
